30th January Event – Purpose of the Program

This event was organized to celebrate the International Year of Millets 2023, declared by the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The program aimed to create awareness and focus on “bringing back millets” to a calorie‑rich diet by promoting high‑yielding varieties, hybrid seed technology, pre‑ and post‑harvest management, value addition, and the global commercialization of millet‑based products.

This inaugural session was organized by the India Millet Initiative and the Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute, Durgapura, with the goal of mainstreaming millets in the right direction.
