Our Story and Mission

The India Millet Initiative aims to support farmers and strengthen the millet supply chain by addressing both supply‑side and demand‑side challenges. We are fully dedicated to the growth of the millet sector.

We develop high‑quality seed varieties for millet farmers and collaborate with industry partners to improve market linkages. We also work with agencies to adopt new technologies and advocate for policy support to boost millet production and ensure food security.

About Us
Why International Decade of Millets

India Millet Initiative conceptualized the International Decade of Millets 2024-2034 to take forward the initiative and efforts made during the International Year of Millets (IDoM 2023). IDoM 2024-2034 was announced in the USA at the University of Nebraska Lincoln while formalizing the Indo-US Millet Initiative with the University of Nebraska, The Daugherty Water For Food, North American Millet Alliance and Sorghum United.

Impact

What we do

As part of the India Millet Initiative, we have developed a program to encourage farmers to take up millet production. We focus on spreading awareness, enrolling new farmers, and expanding the area under millet cultivation. We help farmers adopt effective cultivation methods and improve pest control to reduce crop losses. Additionally, we are establishing seed hubs for breeding and collaborating with technology institutes to advance millet processing and product development.
